However, while I certainly do understand why this book won the Caldecott Medal, and that many also seem to have fond childhood memories of it, that many simply adore The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, the controversies of authenticity and charges of cultural appropriation that have been repeatedly levelled at Paul Goble have certainly made me approach this American picture book classic rather critically and with some major trepidation. For the most part, I have indeed enjoyed The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses and have truly loved author/illustrator Paul Goble's boldly expressive illustrations.
